Francis Loughlin

Senior Youth Worker – Team Leader

I am a Senior Youth Worker for NEELB Youth Service covering Newtownabbey, Carrickfergus and Larne. My designated area for working with young people is Glengormley. The purpose of my role is to enhance the personal and social development of young people through informal education. In the evenings I engage with young people in outreach and detached settings; those who don’t have access to traditional youth clubs. In partnership with the young people we develop issue based projects which help them in their transition from childhood to adulthood.

Two days per week I take that work into the school where I engage with pupils in 4 main areas, Underachievers, Emotional Difficulties, Behavioural Problems and Personal Issues. This service is available to all pupils who can self-refer or be referred by any member of staff through the link teacher. Sixth formers have the option to self-refer directly. I also deliver Alcohol Awareness workshops with Year 9, 10 and 11 pupils during their form periods. Working in school also provides an excellent opportunity to link evening work in the community with behaviour in school.
