Year 10 and 11 pupils build two 3D printers

16th Jun 2015

Some of our Year 10 and 11 pupils recently took part in two 3D printer building workshops under the guidance of the team from Fablab Belfast.

The boys started with the individual component parts and were split into different groups with each group focussing on a particular aspect of the build. Each group assembled their component parts before bringing them all together to fully assemble their printer. All of the boys involved worked incredibly hard to build the printers which will greatly benefit their future studies in GCSE Technology and Design, particularly in the areas of 3D CAD/CAM, model making and prototyping. Edmund Rice College is one of the first schools in Northern Ireland to have built their own 3D printers and we thank the team from Fablab Belfast for their valuable help and expertise in making our 3D printer building workshops a huge success!
