Belfast Cup Champions!
Edmund Rice claimed the Belfast Senior Schools’ Cup at the expense of Grosvenor Grammar School.
Despite being reduced to 10 men, Edmund Rice claimed the Belfast Senior Schools’ Cup at the expense of Grosvenor Grammar School.
With both teams bidding for their first Belfast Senior Schools’ Cup title, it was a fast-paced game but Edmund Rice came out on top with a 2-1 win at Ballyskeagh.
Central defender Daniel Larmour scored a fantastic goal after a quick turn saw him curl a shot into the bottom corner from 12 yards to put Grosvenor ahead after 12 minutes.
But Edmund Rice’s Jack McAlinden replied 22 minutes later with a 35-yard free-kick that flew over the goalkeeper’s head and into the net.
With the scores at 1-1 and the pressure well and truly on, Robert McVarnock was sent-off on the hour mark.
With Edmund Rice a man down, Grosvenor tried hard to take advantage but instead it was Edmund Rice’s Oran Johnston who blasted in the winner in the 69th minute to seal the victory for his side.
