Football For All
Thirty Year 11 Learning for Life and Work GCSE students attended an IFA workshop on Wednesday alongside two other schools- Glengormley High and OL St Pats Lisburn.
The Football for All workshop is designed to challenge stereotypes and prejudices, whilst promoting the key LLW theme of inclusion. Guest speaker Jim Magilton spoke to the boys about his career in football and appealed to the young people to ‘Be the best they can be’. Students worked in groups with other schools to design a mobile phone app in the afternoon to promote inclusion in sport. A great day all round and valuable information for the pupils’ coursework on inclusion in their community.
Head of LLW at Edmund Rice College, Paul Berne said, ‘This was a very interactive and enjoyable programme for the pupils from all schools. The children learned a great deal about each other and from each other. It is important that pupils’ prejudices are challenged and this event certainly does that. Pupils worked together and demonstrated that no matter where you are from, we aren’t that different. Our boys enjoyed working with schools of different religions and for me that’s the immense benefit of LLW.’
