Happy Friday from Mr Berne
Good afternoon everyone. I hope all our families are safe and well as we approach the end of week 5 of our remote learning provision.
This week, we marked Children’s Mental Health Week in Edmund Rice College. Whilst we are disappointed that we could not do this in school, it was still great to see the staff connect with our pupils virtually and offer some very important wellbeing tips, particularly at this time.
Last year, we celebrated a ‘Day of Positivity’ in school to mark this occasion and I look back on that day as of one of the great highlights of my time in Edmund Rice College. The smiling faces, the happiness, the fun and the care, a huge part of the ethos of our school.
Our pupils wellbeing will always be of paramount importance to us and we must once again reinforce that you can only do your best. Home schooling is extremely challenging and at ERC, we truly believe that you are all doing an incredible job!
This week, the alternative arrangements for awarding qualifications for CCEA GCSE, AS and A’ Level were announced. I have attached those arrangements in an email for everyone.
Whilst this is a worrying time for our Year 11-14 pupils, with or without examinations, pupils in Edmund Rice College always excel, and we expect this year will be no different!
Next week, we will have 4 LIVE clubs on offer for our pupils. I have attached the poster for pupils to express interest and avail of this provision. We want to provide the opportunity for pupils to get creative, have fun and interact with their peers. We hope that you get involved and enjoy!
We also have very exciting news in relation to our Community Hub. In the absence of our very successful face to face community hub, we are now moving it online to serve the North Belfast & Newtownabbey communities and beyond.
Many thanks to everyone who completed our recent survey which has identified several key focuses for our hub. Today, we launched our Online Community Hub website with the focus for launch centring on Mental Health.
Our ASD Youth Club, the first of its kind in our community, moved online and it has been great to see the children enjoying themselves and having fun!

We have four days of remote learning to go prior to half-term. Edmund Rice College will close on Thursday 11th February 2021 at 3pm and reopen for supervised learning of our vulnerable and key worker children on Monday 22nd February at 9am.
Have a great weekend,
Take care,
Mr Berne.
