VOTE FOR OWEN
The staff and pupils at Edmund Rice College received amazing news last week when it was revealed that one of their ‘A’ Level Art and Design students has made it through to the Northern Regional Final of this year’s ‘Junk Kouture’ fashion competition. Owen Mc Donald, 17, currently studies Double Award Applied Art and Design and Photography ‘A’ levels and was presented with his ticket to the Millennium Forum in Derry on the 9th March by Jonathan Reilly, Bank of Ireland, Glengormley. Owen’s costume is called ‘Hybrid’ and was constructed using re-cycled card.
Quote from Mrs Aine Gallagher (teacher of Art and Design):
“There were over nine hundred applicants from across Ireland and naturally the art department is filled with excitement. We are extremely proud of Owen’s achievement. It is a very prestigious competition and to make it this far is a success in itself.”
Quote from Owen:
“The concept behind the name ‘Hybrid’ was to combine two elements, in this case the colour white and the diamond. I decided to use only white as I thought it highlighted the construction of the garment. I was delighted when I found out I had made it to the Regional Final. It was a huge surprise. I have always been interested in the fashion industry and hope that this success will enable me to progress on to Art College”.
