Year 10’s NI Cup Champions 2014
It is the first time in the school’s history that Edmund Rice College have won a Northern Ireland Cup. That came on Wednesday 30th of April as Edmund Rice College beat Clounagh Junior High School.
It was a tense first half with both teams having no real scoring opportunities. The second half lit up very quickly as Edmund Rice went two goals up through M Shannon and O Johnston. All was going well but some excellent attacking from Clounagh allowed the lead to slip and the game was level at two each.
The match went to extra time and then to penalties and Edmund Rice College held their nerve to win 4-2. As the saying goes, “the rest is history”.
There was some excellent defending from Joe Craig and Mark Williams while Blaine Keenan held midfield very well. Up front Robbie McVarnock was key in supplying passes.
A big thanks to Mr Fleming and Mr Campbell who managed the team all year and to all the players for their hard work and effort. The school will now represent the North of Ireland in the UK and Ireland Championships in Birmingham later next month.
