PTA

History

Edmund Rice College Parent Teacher Association was set up in November 2000 and since then has grown from strength to strength. We have approximately five meetings a year in which to arrange at least one large fund raising event for the college. In the past we have held quizzes and discos and Nights at the Races which as well as being very successful, have given parents, friends and teachers a social evening together in which they could relax and enjoy themselves. The PTA has seventeen members at present but we are always on the look out for new parents. The association offers a great opportunity for parents to take an active role in the life of the school and feedback is always valued.
Fundraising:

School Oratory

The PTA were able to provide sixth year Art and Design students with acrylics and oil paints, thinners, brushes and stained glass inks which thy used to decorate the school’s Oratory. The money was raised by a Night at the Race in March 2001. The students and teachers are now able to visit the room where they can relax and reflect. The Oratory is also used for class Masses.

Books for Sierra Leone

The Parent Teacher Association was able to provide the Christian Brothers missions in Sierra Leone with new books as a result of a quiz night.

School Gaelic Kit

As a result of PTA fundraising the College received a new Gaelic kit in a range of sizes. The PTA now hopes to supply a junior kit and spikes for the cross-country team

Participation in School Events

The PTA also helps out at events during the school year. Members help with make-up and costumes at school productions, they have participated in Sports Day and are on hand at parent’s nights in order to sell tickets for up-and-coming events.
